Problem with Avast and FoxMail 5

I can’t configure avast to work well with foxmail…if I turn on the Avast it doesn’t let me connect to my mail (using hotmail through Foxmail which is an alternative to Outlook Express)…

and

if I turn off the email scanning and outlook and internet mail then it lets me recieve my emails but automatically removes my attachments…

what can i do to fix this…

PS: I also want to stop the scanning windows that pop up at the bottom right on my screen every time avast is scanning something…

Try this:

1] setup foxmail to receive/send messages.
2] check if it works
3] close foxmail
4] run the mail protection wizzard
5] check if it still works

that is what i did…it works when its off…and when i turn it off and do the mail wizard it doesn’t do anything…when i do it for set up automatically it will not let me connect with FoxMail when I turn that on…when I try do it manually it does the same…

I think this has to do with the fact that Hotmail isn’t pop/smtp based. If Foxmail saves the messages on your harddisk, Avast’s on-access scanner normally will scan them since they are files which are accessed. So you should be safe imo. Perhaps someone else knows more about this and pops in.

yeah…with these email features turned off…AVAST will let me log on (keeping in mind that I have to turn off these AVAST services in the Windows Task Manger under Services) and it will scan my emails since they are saved onto my computer…but what it does it deletes all my attachments…i can go online and log into Homtail on the website and I will be able to see the attachments…so this means that AVAST is deleted them…

what can I do guys… ???

Hello, i am new to this forums but i can help
… I have foxmail running with “Avast mail scanner” (home edition) and “pop goes the gmail”… So I can read message from any mail box : yahoo, hotmail and gmail … My settings are :

  • settings for avast mail scanner : SMTP : 127.0.0.1:25 and POP3 : 127.0.0.1:110

  • settings for Foxmail 5 : in classic accounts (like yahoo) :
    SMTP server: 127.0.0.1
    SMTP authentification : #smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    POP3 server: 127.0.0.1
    login : #pop.mail.yahoo.com
(in “advanced” the ports are 25 and 110)

-settings for Foxmail 5 : in Hotmail accounts :
SMTP server:127.0.0.1
SMTP authentification : @hotmail.com#localhost:8025
POP3 server:127.0.0.1
login : @hotmail.com#localhost:8110
check the box “use proxy-hotmail”
(in “advanced” the ports are 25 and 110)
You must also configure the foxmail-proxy , open it (with tools/proxy-foxmail) and change the SMTP port to 8025 and POP3 port to 8110. (The defaults are 25 and 110)

  • for Gmail, same principle as Hotmail, but ports are 9025 and 9110 (setup in “Pop goes the gmail” and in Foxmail)

So that’s it … not too complicated I hope …
