Problem with avast free after installation!

After I installed Avast free 7 on Windows XP Pro SP3.
When the computer starts up, runs one of the processes Svchost.exe at 99% about 3-4 minutes, starts the icon avast! in the start and start Avastsvc or something like it 2-3 minutes at 99% … … … … … With the previous version of avast! my windows do not behave like this, and the process svchost not reaching 99% …
P.S. I am using tuneup utilities and 5 auto-boot does not have why to kick off so bad!

  1. What is the exact version of Avast that you have? Was this an upgrade or a clean/fresh install?
  2. What other security software do you currently have or did you have in the past on this machine including:
  • Antivirus (AV)
  • Firewall (FW)
  • Trial versions of AV, FW and other security programs
  • Other security software
  • If they were in the past, how did you remove them (the vendor’s uninstaller’s tool or another way)?
  1. Did this problem occur just after installing or upgrading to the new version of Avast?
  2. Have you scanned your machine for malware? Is your machine acting normally otherwise?
  3. Have you tried Avast GUI > Settings > Troubleshooting > Load Avast services after loading other system services. Reboot. See if this helps.
  1. Avast! Free Antivirus 7.0.1456
  2. Before I use Comodo Internet Security. I’ve uninstalled because there are pleased with their antivirus
Currently no other security software installed
  3. Frankly, some small problems appeared after installing avast! … not started automatically after the installation, I have waited a few minutes, but not started. I’ve turned on manually
  4. No, I don’t have problems with viruses or other threats.
I’ve recently reinstalled windows Vista, but I was using before I changed to XP.
It may not be compatible with this version of XP?
I was using Vista, I used avast and had no problems with parasite infections system
  5. No, thought that mam

Excuse me if I am wrong in writing … my English is terrible kinda

Your English is fine.

  1. Not … I wont uninstall programs in Control Panel. All the time when I install or uninstall a program, give the computer restart
  2. Yes !
  3. Yes, I install avast a little later and I will try those settings.

Anyway, if it will not go … have to reinstall Windows as this one I tested wandering with all applications on it …Do not use VMWare
So all my tests hurts il computer … somehow

I am like that user who puts her nose everywhere and so learn what is good and what is not.

Thanks for the tips, I hope to go so

The next time we hear on the forum, I leave you a beer

Just so I understand correctly, you do or do not have Comodo Internet Security on your machine now?

Thank you for the offer for the beer. I might need it later.

No mate, I uninstalled comodo internet security. After that I installed avast

What do you use for a firewall?

Since you also had a problem after the installation of Avast, I also suggest you Repair Avast:

XP Users:

  • Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > Avast Antivirus.
  • Scroll down and choose Repair function in the pop-up window.
  • Reboot.

Vista & Win7 Users:

  • Control Panel
  • Programs & Features
  • Uninstall a Program > Select Avast Antivirus
  • Click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair
  • Click Next and follow.
  • Reboot.
  1. Let us know if the problem happened after you upgraded from an older version of Avast to this version, or you uninstalled and put a new version of Avast on your machine.

  2. Try the Avast Repair and let us know if that helps resolve your problem. Reboot after you do the Repair.

I installed the new version of the program directly and then appeared the problem with svchost.
I install avast again and I’ll tell you how to behave after installation, and after restart. If they appear small problems I give him repair and I try to keep settings

I really don’t think Avast have done them selves justice with Avast Version 7 when running on Windows XP.
I have not experienced any issues with Avast 7 on Windows 7 but on XP it’s simply horrible.

I thought I’d put my 2 cents worth in to this thread after now having spend 2 hours fighting Avast.
The latest version of Avast was installed on a test XP PC via the auto update routine.
As of the next reboot this PC was quite unusable.
I couldn’t even get a list of installed apps via appwiz.cpl, couldn’t disable the Avast service etc…
The eventual resolution was to boot into SafeMode and uninstall Avast.
I’ve cleaned up and have now installed Avast 6. All seems fine. I guess at some point I’ll have to uninstall and test Avast 7 as a clean install but for now I’m out of time.
Of course the easiest solution would be for me to install SEP as I’m licensed for it but I honestly hate the product it’s so invasive, OH sounds like Avast 7…
I’ve also experienced other issues with Avast 7 on XP, from BSOD post install, one of the 5 I’ve seen resulted in a rebuild…
So Avast please look carefully at this.
I am trialing Avast Enterprise at 2 small sites of 40 odd PC’s, not fully deployed but trialing.
They like most businesses are still XP and have no intention of moving to Win7 currently. Should I continue???
I’m leaning towards a no… Nasty old Trend Worry Free is likely staying. Simply put, it works…

This is not a boycot of Avast… But I’ve never experienced these type of issues with Avast until version 7 was released.

My understanding is that there will be a patch released either this or next week to fix some issues with v. 1456.

In the meantime, here is the download file for v. 1426 Free:
