problem with avast free home edition

hi!
i have free vast home edition and i have 2 problems.
First,my avast can’t be updated and it says that it couldn’t connect with the server
and the second is that : avast does not let me open internet explorer.i can open it only when i pause web protection!
what i shoud do?
can any one help me?

do or did you use any other security software?
what is your firewall?
which is your OS?
how are you connected to the internet? (proxy, dial-up,…)

The couldn’t connect to the server is frequently firewall blocking.
What is your firewall ?
Does it allow avast.setup internet access ?

  • If it does delete the entry for it and do a manual update, this will force the firewall to ask permission again.

Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
