I recently downloaded the Nokia Ovi Suite and installed it on Windows Seven RC 1 32bit and 64bit.
Possibly someone can try this with an other OS…?
Both times the avast! self-defense box appeared and asked for permission to shut down avast!.
I both times clicked “No” (in the meaning of “don’t allow”), but anyhow both taskbar-icons (on-access + VRDB) disappeared… ???
If i try to download the eicar test file avast! still detects and blocks it…
EDIT: The icons reappeared after a restart of the system, like expected.
can it be that the self-defense only protects the services and not the taskbar icons?
Why does the Ovi Suite try to shut down avast!?
Well, the truth is that the interactive processes are almost impossible to protect (it’s not possible to say where Windows messages come from… so, if somebody simulates keyboard or mouse input to close the program, it’s hard to do anything about it).
So yes, it’s possible to kill the GUI processes; the services should be much harder.
But I also don’t know why Nokia Suite should terminate avast!?!
