Problem with avast

Hello,

Yesterday I updated the program and it asked me for a restart. I did so, the computer turned on, all the indicator lights went on, the fans, but the screen was black, no sound from running windows. I pressed the power button to force shut down and again when i turned it on - black screen.

What do you think have happened? I have not experienced any problems with this computer whatsoever.

Thanks

No BIOS screen? Nothing? Just black?

jet black

Well, sounds like HW dead. Not anything we could solve here. You can try a CMOS reset (see motherboard manual).

Agreed.

Looks like it is not related to any software. Just happened to happen simultaniously with the update.

sorry, this may be stupid question but what is HW?

Hardware.

Something broke in your PC. Unrelated to software updates or any installation.

thanks

Long shot - I’m sure you were paying attention to it - but is there any chance you missed seeing the BIOS screen prompt?

(I had a black screen (windows not loading) problem last week - but it did go through bios and start of windows loading before going black, so I was able to access repair/recovery options)

Any beeps from the PC when turning it on?
Like 5 short beeps or 3 long or anything like that?

Just a guess… Don’t shout at me plz… May be possible that Hard Disk wire has loosen up???

Nope. Youl’d still have the BIOS screen in that case and something would beep and the screen would display something like “No OS disk”

Ya I agree to you BIOS screen must be there. Or may be its for just a few seconds so he might have missed it…?
Just a possibility again

Yeah, with all these stupid “cool” logos being used instead of proper POST screen and all kinds of self-diagnostics being skipped by default because it is oh soooo important to spare 10 seconds on power on, it is often almost impossible to catch this. Nevertheless, you should end up with a prompt about unbootable media in the end.

But the screen is black… no logo, no text.

As said - dead MB, dead VGA… whatever. This forum is not the place to solve it.
