Hello
My laptop runs Windows 7, and after a blue screen out of the blue(I think it was some time after an update of avast), won’t boot. This didn’t actually happen immediately after the blue screen. At first everything looked ok, but later that day it couldn’t boot. The repair option after a few seconds sends me to the"reboot menu" that I have to choose again if I want to repair or start windows normally(this option leaves me with a black screen with a white cursor. I tried safe mode(with every way) and then I realized that it was getting stuck at the same point, at awsrvrt.sys. I even tried to delete the whole avast file from a live kubuntu dvd, but kubuntu couldn’t access the partition of windows. Trying to find a solution I ended up at this topic:
https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=120531.0
Should I do the same thing?(it seems that the “Windows 7 64bit RC” that is needed, isn’t available any more)
Thank so much in advance!

I couldn’t access Advanced Boot Options from BIOS, so I used a windows installation disc as you said. From there, with F8 I entered the Adv.Boot Opt. but I don’t see the option “Repair your computer”.
I have:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Enable Boot Logging
Enable low-resolution video
Last know Good Configuration
Directory Services Restore Mode
Debugging Mode
Disable automatic restart on system failure
Disable driver signature enforcement

Start Windows Normally

Hi,

You can’t access to Advanced Boot Options from BIOS. Just restart your computer and tap F8 to bring up the Advanced Menu (this is where you can see the Safe Mode;Safe Mode with Networking;…etc), and then click Repair your computer.

There you should find the Repair your computer options on top or at bottom.

But first, do me a favor and try to select the Last know Good Configuration. This shall force Windows to load the last good saved system hivs.
Tell me is the problem fixed?

Btw, Restart your computer options from System Recovery Options using Windows installation disc must be there. You just don’t see it.
Feel free to re-try.

The last good know configuration ends up at the black screen with the white cursor. Also just now the “repair your computer” appeared with the F8 at the beginning(it really wasn’t there before…), I clicked it, but there isn’t some kind of menu to click “us”. Instead I see the same black screen… ???

As far as the System Recovery Options using Windows installation disc, I don’t know if there is a problem with my disc, but after pressing any key to boot from cd, it seems to load windows files but the goes usual screen with starting windows.

I think there must be a problem with my cd-rom also… It is supposed to have some little lights on the inside where it"reads the cd", right? These are off, and the Windows disc has been used recently and it works just fine.

Chaos… :o

Hi,

Then follow this guide here for creating OTLPE reatogo disk and running FRST via OTL’s disk. This isn’t a wise idea when you have 64bit system but just for start it should do the job.

  • If you cannot Boot the computer section

Hi,

Sorry it took me some time to reply.
Well, I just did what you proposed with the OTLPE reatogo disk and I got this FRST.txt.
So what should I do next?

I really appreciate the help!

Hi,

Posted log is not good. It has preform the diagnostic of reatogo system wich is Windows XP with OTL tool.

I am afraid that I can not help you since you can access to RE. :frowning:

What do you mean?
I did exactly what the instructions suggested. Should I do anything differently? I have still reatogo-x-pe running, i can do it right now.
And what do you mean by RE?

RE stands for Recovery Environment. ReatogoPe is just an Live CD (ilegal by some book) and it hasn’t been update since 2011. I can do much with outdated OTLPE.

Re-try to access to Advanced Boot Options and from there to access to RE. This is only way we can just attempt to preforme some fixes.

Without RE access, I can not do much … sorry. :frowning:

So what could I do now? I obviously can not format my hard drive with Windows since I can not even boot with an installation disc, so I have to install a Linux distro and then change back to Windows… The problem is that, even with letting go of trying to save my current Windows installation, I have really important files that I simply can’t lose. In the previous days I have used a live Kubuntu cd and even from there I couldn’t access the hard drive…

Is there anything else that you can suggest? For example could I put my hard drive in an external hard drive enclosure and try to access it from another healthy computer?

Hi, sorry I forgot to give you a reply.

So what should you do now? To call some PC services to take a look this computer, this may be the best choise.

From here (via forum), I can’t assist you but someone can take a look and try to preform some fixes (re-writing of MBR & Boot, or to preform the windows repair …etc).

For example could I put my hard drive in an external hard drive enclosure and try to access it from another healthy computer?

Yes, but in that case you need to make shure that this healty computer have the active AntiVirus and MCShield installed.
