problem with new release 17.1.2286

After upgrading to release version 17.1.2286 and restarting the laptop I now get the following error when I try and start ANY programs. “The application was unable to start correctly (0xc00000e5). Click ok to close application”. Also, when I click on the Avast icon I only get an all white box on the screen. I can right click on the icon and get a screen with choices but nothing happens when I click on them. I am using a HP Pavilion dv7 running Windows 10. I have tried downloading from the website and from within the application and get this issue with both methods. To fix issue I must go back to a restore point. Please help….

Perform a repair of avast and see if it solves the problem.
If not, perform a clean installation of the latest avast version and check again.

Have already tried both of your suggestions with the same results. Apparently there is a bug in this new release I found this comment on “filehippo”

This last version is causing problems with Windows 10 graphic interphase. Thought it was a problem with registry after running Ccleaner. I reset the pc after trying without success some possible solutions I read in forums online. I installed everything again and everything was Ok until Avast installation updated. The icons on Start menu and Start bar stopped working. I uninstalled Avast and everything was fine again. I hope they fix this bug soon. I've been using Avast for years and it's a great antivirus software.

I guess I will stay on the old release until Avast fixes this issue. thanks for your input…

I was hit by the same problem. I updated to Avast 17.1.2286 and then started seeing many “The application was unable to start correctly (0xc00000e5)” errors.

I was thankfully able to get things working again by going back to a system restore point from just before the Avast update, which brought me back to Avast version 12.3.2280.

I’m going to NOT update Avast until I hear that this issue has been understood and corrected.

Do you guys use the COMODO FW/Internet security software on your PCs?

if your answer is yes. Could you please share the version info and if possible update it to the latest version (10.0).

I do indeed use Comodo firewall. I’m currently running version 8.2.0.5027, with pretty much all of the features disabled except for the firewall.

Well that was interesting.

After the last update (1st mar 2017) half my pc was trashed. “The application was unable to start correctly (0xc00000e5). Click ok to close application” for most things, including, worryingly, system restore, task manage, command prompt, and most of the other things I use to diagnose problems, and all my start programs.

Thought maybe the supposed update was a fake! Unable to open Avast! either. Nothing about it on the Avast! website. This forum is really hard to find - do a Google for Avast Forum and see if you can find it. Anyway eventually found it, and downloaded the tool to uninstall, reinstalled Avast and all is well now. I wonder how other folks are getting on with this!
