Problem with other user accounts, win2k avast 4.7

Hi there,

I’ve just loaded Avast 4.7 onto a Win2k computer from the Administrator account. When I log on with one of the other user accounts (member of “Users”) it won’t recognise the license key. If I change this account to be a member of “Administrators” it’s fine, but I can’t leave it like that. Any ideas?

Thanks

Nick

Try this:

  1. Install avast! under administrative account
  2. Reboot
  3. Insert key into avast! under administrative account
  4. Reboot
  5. Login as non-privileged user

Only the installation requires administrator privileges. All other actions (including the updating and upgrading) should work even when running under regular user.
This is because the updating process takes place inside a system service process.

If nothing helps, also check the permissions in registry “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Alwil Software\Avast\4.0”, it should have Administrators and SYSTEM set to Full Control

Hope something helps…

Tried this but it didn’t change. I checked the Registry and there didn’t seem to be an entry for Administrators or SYSTEM.

It’s not an entry (value) but the permissions to access. An installation from the scratch should correct this:

  1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
  2. Boot.
  3. Use Avast Uninstall for complete uninstallation.
  4. Boot.
  5. Install again the last version.
  6. Boot.
  7. Check and post the results.

But, maybe you have already tested it.
Please, post the last 100-150 lines of avast log: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Setup.log

Followed the steps, still the same. I’m attaching the log. Thanks for your help

Nick

Just realised that I hadn’t loaded in the registration key when I posted the last log. Here’s it after registering. thanks

Nick

Any ideas yet? Be great to get it working properly.

Thanks

Nick

I don’t see a problem into the logs…
Sorry I’m empty and I’m not an expert on Windows 2k. Hope someone from the developers could see this thread.
