Problem with PDFXchange (carryover from UPDATES thread)

Okay, I found the culprit causing the problem with the installer hanging up. I was examining the error report folder and in the xml file I saw a couple of references to KhalScroll.exe. This is a program from Logitech called Smooth Scrolling for their mice. I uninstalled that, uninstalled PDFXchange, cleaned out the registry and rebooted. I then tried to install PDFXchange and VOILA!!!, everything proceeded perfectly.

Problem solved

Thanks for the update. I’ve been holding off on updating PDF-XChange till your problem was resolved, but now that you’ve apparently pinned it down to your mouse drivers I guess it’s safe to go ahead since I use whatever mice I can find cheaply which use the generic Win drivers.

I prefer Sumatra PDF reader:

I have a logitech mouse (MX Performance Mouse) but no reference to KhalScroll.exe on my system

Same here. Like David, I don’t have that program on my computer.

It’s a special app you get from the Logitech site that is supposed to make the scrolling smoother in web browsers. Apparently it’s not too good because it was also causing a slowdown in the shutdown procedure of Windows 7. I would always get a notice that it had to wait for background programs to close. Now it doesn’t do that. I also have the Setpoint suite installed so I can set my scroll wheel to do a double click when it’s pressed. Most Logitech mice will work without Setpoint if you only have a 3 button one.

I only have the $8 M100 mouse myself but I wanted the double click function so I installed the driver suite.

that’s what I had installed that was causing the problem.

That very strange Dch48 as I have a logitech mouse too and no reference to KhalScroll.exe on my system :-\

Mine is a big beast, it needs setpoint as it is highly configurable. It is great ergonomically and has 8 buttons, all of which can be programmed to do many things. I have programmed three, two of then that I use my thumb to activate and boy does it make general browsing much easier.

It is the most I have ever paid for a mouse, at the time it was the top of the range Logitech one at the time, it cost an arm and a leg and wasn’t the one I was looking for, but the next one up. I paid over the odds for it as I bought retail from a computer store as I wanted to see it in real life. Could have waited and ordered on-line for a cheaper price, but would have paid carriage then.

I broke my right wrist a few years ago and ever since using a mouse has been a pain if I over do it, this one is much better, so I guess I got what I paid for.

My logitech mouse is a G5 Laser that comes with my G15 Gaming Keyboard, and I had to keep the drivers up to date for new war games I buy like MW3 ;D

Because, as I explained, it’s a utility, only for Win 7, that’s supposed to give smoother scrolling in web browsers. I posted the link to the description. You don’t automatically have it if you have a Logitech mouse and it is not a part of their driver suite Setpoint.

I bought the mouse for $7.92 on Walmart’s web site and because it was also in stock at the local store I opted for store pickup. I had to wait like 3 hours for an email saying I could go get it. After I had it, I was looking in the electronics Dep’t and the exact same mouse was priced at $9.97. That just didn’t make any sense to me.
