I just confirm the problem of Geokef and MarcThin, new installation W2K, SP4, once I get the desktop before the red sign disappears it takes between 1’05" - 1’20" sec.
During that period, neither the e-mail nor the web are accessible.
This means the booting is practically 1 minute longer and you end up to have the same booting time as when you have Norton.
I have installed Kerio 4, nothing changed, same timing which means Kerio has no influence.
To sum up, first I installed W2K, then Live Update to SP4, then AVAST, finally KERIO.
I repeat, nothing chenged since I installed Kerio in terms of timing.
Well delayed loads are generally very hard to debug. This is because the program is stuck in some place (typically a system API call) which either times out or just takes long time to complete (even though it works normally on other machines).
First thing I’d do is check the avast log viewer. Are there any entries in the Warning or Error category?
I found the following in the FAQ sheet regarding “Other questions”.

Oke I did this procedure. The automatic updater for windows I sutdown. The remote acces auto connection manager I set on Automatic and the Remote Acces connection manager I also set on automatic (both services were not on the automatic).
I reboot and the problem is stil there.
This problem set my computer on a compleet stand stil for 45 seconds. The screen for services is not starting up. Other programs wil wel starting up (the internet browser).
Also I found out that as I in the uninstal service for avast click on the repair icon Avast at last starting up.
I Also use WINXP and the problem there dus not exist.
I did another discovery. As my system starts up nothinh wil happen. The avst icon is locked. But if I klik on the avasticon and click on the update service than starts avast up. So I think there is something with the connection with the internet server ???
I have read your postings on the INI file for Avast. The only possible thing that was not in my inifile was at the end of the file the AlwaysConnectedWaitSeconds The value is 60 seconds (in your file 30).
Al is stil the same. System boots up and 40, 50 seconds later the avast icon in the systemtray is than spinning around and starts up.
I have another thing in related to this problem.
I had in the past OFFICE XP installed. There was no problem.
Now I have OFFICE 2003 installed en than begin the RPC problem.
Can it be that someting is wrong in relation to the OFFICE 2003 suite?

When Windows loads it’s Startup file, it attempts to load every program in there at the same time. Therefore if you have quite a lot of programs starting when Windows starts, each program will try and grab CPU time so that it can load.
If each program tries to do this at the same time, you soon notice the slow down that occurs, due to your CPU trying to help all the programs to load, and your hard disk accessing multiple files.
Startup Delayer allows you to setup how many seconds after Windows has started, to load each program.
For Example:
If you have your mail program and a special clock starting up, then you can make your mail start say 10 seconds after Windows has loaded, and then the special clock start 20 seconds after Windows Starts.[/i]
I think not, at least, for me, no troubles while updating from Office XP to 2003.
Did you apply Office 2003 SP1?
I didn’t have any chance to give a try to some of the suggestions that came out in the forum so far, I will only be able to do so next week, I’ll be back with my feedback soon.
Having the exact same problem with XP Pro. Mine takes over a minute to start up. The services are on automatic but not started and when they are started it still takes the same amount of time. Each time I boot, the problem returns.
Here’s what the log says:
