For the last month or two, when I “check for updates” from SAS (free version), it gets both parts of the def updates OK but totally misses any program updates I’ve seen in the Updates topic here. This seems to have started after the last program update it did catch (sorry, don’t remember the version).
The last time this happened, just in case maybe there was a significant change in how SAS handled updates, I uninstalled it, and downloaded and clean-installed the then-latest version. But it still behaves the same, no mention of the latest update from today or yesterday which was newly posted in Updates.
Well I have the Pro version and no issues, first it gets the signature updates and then it pops-up a message (bottom right, a little like avast) that a Program Update is available, etc. and do you want to install it now.
I use to notice the same instances of the updating issue with the SAS free version, it use to be a little slow with updates at times so I switched over to the SAS Pro version and It seems to update more consistently. The pro version is a one time lifetime fee with no annual renewal of the license.
With the free SAS it just needs some persistence from the user, it only is a bit slow with program updates and these downloads are not always available. Once their server reacts it goes rather smoothly is my experience, it is just as with farmers never download on a Monday, bur rather on Tuesdays or Saturdays ;D *

In the old days of folklore Dutch farmers would never turn their cows out on a Monday, cows would lay on their calf that way, better to start activities on a Tuesday or Saturday. Old superstition also warned against emptying a magpie’s nest, then cows would get sick… ;D
Thanks, Damian. With the free version, and typically scanning just once a week, I don’t need daily def updates, and usually update on Saturdays just before scanning as part of my “weekly housecleaning”.
Tried again today, just now, and got the defs update but again no program update. However, immediately checking again after that was done did get me the program update. So I’ll definitely have to remember that for next time, thanks again.
Obviously their servers must be getting fairly busy - until fairly recently, as I’d noted in my original post, any available program updates were consistently and reliably gotten at the same time as the defs, without having to go back and check again.
