Problem with Smart Scan's Compatibility Check

Hi,

I am running the latest version of avast! Free Antivirus (11.1.2245) and the latest version of COMODO Free Firewall (8.2.0.4792) (no antivirus installed).

However, when I run avast!'s Smart Scan, the Compatibility Check indicates that there is another antivirus program running, Comodo Internet Security, and avast! strongly recommends removing the program. Not only do I not have another antivirus program installed, but I also do not have COMODO Internet Security installed. I only have their free firewall installed.

This issue has been reported on the Comodo Support Forum, and the moderator indicated that it is an issue with avast!, and the issue should be reported to avast! so they can fix the issue. I opened a ticket (Ticket ID: 128448) on January 6th with avast! Technical Support, but I have not heard back from anyone yet.

Has anyone else experienced this same issue with the Compatibility Check erroneously reporting software (COMODO or other software) that should be removed? If so, how have you resolved the problem?

Also, I have had a couple of BSODs recently, and windbg indicates the cause both times was a conflict between avast! and COMODO. I don’t know if the above situation with avast! thinking there is another antivirus program installed is causing the BSODs. I do know that if I did have 2 antivirus programs installed there is a good chance I would get BSODs.

Again, I am running avast! Free Antivirus as my only antivirus program. Comodo Free Firewall does not have an antivirus component.

Thank you very much for your assistance.

Best regards,

Hi,

Thank you to all who took the time to read my post.

I just received the reply below from Avast!'s Technical Support staff. I’m posting it here for general reference should anyone discover they have they same issue in the future.

Best regards,

Reply from Avast! Technical Support Staff:

"Thank you for contacting AVAST Software s.r.o. with your concerns and sorry for the late response.

I discussed this problem with our developers and they informed me that this detection is correct. There can be conflicts between Comodo Firewall and some features of Avast (Home Network Security).

It isn’t a big compatibility problem like it would be if an ordinary second antivirus would be running, but the warning is correct in general.

If you are only using the essential parts of Avast antivirus (Web, File System and Mail shields), you can ignore this message.

We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to contact me again."

Good to know, thanks for sharing the info.

Thanks for sharing.
I’m personally very happy with the combination of Avast Free and the Firewall built into the Windows 10 OS.
