Hello,
Avast Free Antivirus v26.3. In the firewall log, I see entries like this (first screenshot) – Out, TCP, remote port 80, 443.
But I can’t find the file avast_av_online_setup.exe on either volume4 or any of the other drives; the file either doesn’t exist or is hidden somehow.
When I try to create a firewall rule, I see the tooltip “This file does not exist” (second screenshot).
So what is this file, and how do I find it? Has anyone else seen this?
That is the on-line installation file and I don’t believe it is retained after the Avast Update
I have no idea what your device\harddiskvolume4\ is but I would guess it is referring to C:\program files\AVAST Software\avast folder.
Whilst I generally only do Manual Program Updates, there is no
What firewall are you using ?
Why would you need to create a firewall rule for it , e.g. are you getting errors displayed ?
Why an online update? Because with an offline installation of v26.3, you can’t select which security components to install, and a whole bunch of unnecessary junk will get installed. With an online update from v26.1 to v26.3, only the security components that were selected during the installation of v26.1 will be updated.
As I said:
What you are seeing is the on-line update/manual update, when you click update from within Avast it runs this small script, which I don’t believe is retained after the update is completed.
Typically I only use the manual update and not the Auto Update function, but as far as I’m aware they both should retain existing settings and components.
That has been the case for me, that said, the first instance of Avast 26.3, it had some bugs, such as the no Limited Mode for notifications and some were also impacted by not receiving the micro virus definition updates (not the case for me).
I also have the Avast Firewall setting set to Smart Mode +notifications.
Also some time ago Avast started using icarus.exe for some updates.
I don’t know if this might also be an issue.
