Problem with update 100918-0

Yesterday my avast download the update 100918-0, and it need I reboot my computer. When I did this, my browsers cant show any webpage, until I disabled my web shield. Since then, I cant surf in the web with the web shield enabled.
Help.Thank.

I don’t know why it needed to reboot, mine didn’t so unless you did a program update at the same time, a reboot shouldn’t have been necessary.

Sounds more like firewall blocking avast.

What is your OS ?

What avast version are you using 4.8 or 5.0 (below assumes 5.0) ?

What is your firewall ?
Does it allow avastSvc.exe internet access ?

  • If it does delete the entry for it and do a manual update and reconnect to the internet, this should force the firewall to ask permission again.

My OS is Windows, I use the version 5.0 and my firewall is windows firewall. I’ve already tried to disable firewall, and I’ve just allowed internet access to avastSvc.exe, but I still without internet conection in the browser (I can connect programs like Messenger o Spotify).

Well what version of windows, makes a difference ?

However, generally there is either zero outbound checking (winXP) or it is disabled by default (Vista & win7), so unless you enabled outbound checking in those which have it, then it shouldn’t be the cause.

Connections to those don’t use http, port 80 so wouldn’t be going through the web shield proxy.

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

What browser are you using ?
Have you tried another browser to see if it works with that ?

I use winXP SP3, I`ve tried repair the program, but nothing.
I use firefox but in internet explorer, chrome… but the problem continue in all of them

Are you using the deafault settings in the webshield?
Have you tried to change them to see if it makes a difference?
Have you checked the firewall log file to see if something from avast is blocked?

ive done all you have told me, but it dont work. I’ll have to reinstall de program :-[
