Hi, i seem to be having a problem on my Vista. I was regularly getting updates for a while, but now i cant seem to. I also can seem to manually update it either. Whenever i click the manual update, nothing happens. Sometimes i get the standard Vista asking for permission popup, but nothing happens after that. My last update was from nov 16.
Any help would be appreciated.
On another unrelated note, i tried to restart the program my shutting it down in services, but it wont let me. Is there a way to do it?
If it were me I would Uninstall Avast, reboot to safe mode, and run the
uninstall utility. Then reboot to normal mode and re-install the latest
version.
It seems like restarting my computer has fixed the problem. I normally just use hibernate. Sorry for all the trouble and thanks for all the suggestions.

Avast! protects itself from malware by not letting you turn it off except through the normal gui. You can try changing that by right clicking the icon, and going to Program Settings/troubleshooting and selecting “Disable Avast! self defense module”. Most firewalls and AVs are hard to terminate manually except for the GUI for the same reasons that help make them resist malware doing it.
