Problem with updates

Hi, I am using the free basic protection. Once I try to download update I get a message that the host is not available and I do not need updates. The next day system and Avast tells me to update Avast again. This happens every day. It goes both for the antivirus lib and the program update. Trued reinstalling, it helped for a short while now I am back to this update prob. Win7. Any advice?

Upgrade to the latest avast version and see if the problem still is there.

My version is 2015.10.0.2208

I installed it 2 weeks ago.

Also how can I upgrade if updates do not load? ::slight_smile:

  1. Download Avast Free Antivirus Beta: http://files.avast.com/beta9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

Yesterday I downloaded the cleaner and the program. I followed the instructions. Still cannot update:

  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

  2. Comodo Firewall, if it counts.
  3. After I started getting those errors I shortly switched to Kasp for a month, then switched back to Avast.

First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of your prior installed AV(s)…!!

Hi, are the given instructions still valid?

Whilst a topic that is not that far of three years old would be considered to be very dated. The removal of multiple AVs that are likely to cause conflict so it is wise that they are removed. Outside of that, the avast Repair is still a general first step and a clean reinstall if that fails is still relevant.

That said, you don’t say what your problem is to decide if it is relevant.

Thank you for the reply! Same prob as when I started the subject - there is a screensjot above. I will try uninstall utility and then install the latest version of Avast

Hi! I uninstalled the old version of Avast in Safe mode using the recommended application and followed all the steps. Then I installed the latest Avast version. All went smooth. However, the problem with updates remains. As I try to refresh either the virus base or the program Avast gives me an unnown error. I checked my other laptop with Avast - udates go well there, same new version there. If there are no updates it says “no updates required”. Sorry for my complete noobism, but where do I type those things to?

Also if it is a network prob, why doesn’t the other laptop suffer from it. Both laptops share the same wifi network
