Problem with Web Shield

I have a problem with Web Shield in Avast 4.7.1001. >:(

The computer boots up OK and Avast starts. The Web Shield does not run but has a message saying

" The provider is waiting for a subsystem to start".

If I leave the computer running around 20 minutes later the Web Shield starts.

This was stopping the autoupdates but I’ve changed the programme settings as instructed on the web site and now updates run OK but the Web Shields still takes ages to run.

I’m using Windows Vista. Home Premium.

Any ideas please???

The error message “The provider is waiting for a subsystem to start” has absolutely nothing to do with the web shield. It is about having the Outlook/Exchange provider enabled and it is waiting for MS Outlook (not express) to be loaded.

Do you have the Outlook/Exchange provider enabled and do you have MS Outlook ?

So you have a problem other than this that is effecting the web shield. The web shield should either work or not work and not act in this way wait 20 minutes and it starts, as you can see by the question below what usually stops the web shield is a firewall but it isn’t intermittent.

What is your firewall ?
Does it allow ashWebSv.exe internet access ?

  • If it does delete the entries for them and reconnect to the internet, this will force the firewall to ask permission again.

Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
What other security based software do you have ?

What if you check the option “Delay loading of avast! services after other system services” on the Troubleshooting page of avast! program settings - does it help?
