Hi,
First off I have to say that I love the New avast program.Long time user, but I do have a vexing problem that somehow is causing me grief.
I searched the forum if this had been noted, and the only thing I saw in reference to it was this one…
“Webshield prevent browser working after using clone disk”—would have put the quotation on,but couldn,t get it to work for me.
My specs are WinXP sp2,FFx 3.57,and ZAPro 5.5.094,Avast 5.0.377
I noticed in the referenced article, was the mention of “ashwebsv.exe”–the only place I have that file is in my prefetch file–should it also be in the main Avast folder??
It does not show up in my ZAPro program list!!
If I disable the Web Shield module I have no problems surfing, but if enabled I get “the connection to the server was reset while the page was loading” and can,t load any more pages. If I disable my firewall I don,t have the same problem, but don,t want to run like that!!
I tried the Repair fix under Add/Remove,but that didn,t help.
What would be your suggestion to remedy this??
Thanks,
BUMP!
Anyone ?
I don’t know, but I think ZA has conflicts already with avast webshield since v. 4.8? Didn’t they? That makes us to turn of avast webshield to make both of them work.
Hi,
Thanks for the response…
I,m almost certain that I had it (web shield) in operation with 4.8
Could you check for me on whether you have “ashwebsv.exe” in your Avast 5 folder.
Thanks
Windows XP Service Pack 3 has been available for over a year and a half plus it provides many Critical Updates and performance improvements.
You need to start Internet Explorer then go to Tools then Windows Update and download all of the available updates.
Go to Control Panel then Automatic Updates then select Automatic (recommended) or at least Notify me but don’t automatically download or install them.
IE8 is more secure than IE7 and has a lot better performance:

ZoneAlarm has to be re-trained for the updated avast! modules that need Internet access.
Go to Secunia Online Software Inspector then run it to see what other applications are vulnerable:

There is ashWebSv.dll for Web Shield
Cahya.
Thanks.I have ashwebsv.dll in my folder, but not ashwebsv.exe that was mentioned in the above prior post.I note that ashwebsv.exe was in 4.8 though.

Thanks for your comments.
- XP SP3–I have all updates that have been issued through that package installed.
- I have all updates issued by MS to this point in time, and verified by Belarc.–I install all manually, and don,t leave it to MS.
- IExplorer—???----I haven,t used that “unsafe”,bug ridden browser for a number of years, and don,t have any intention of ever using it again!
- I am well aware of some of the fobiles of ZA,but have been using it for years and know how to correct any problems it might throw out.
My original question, about “Web Shield”,has,I believe, not been fully answered or addressed…ie…Why must Web shield be disabled, because it has a conflict with a firewall??
sammi,
My avast GUI shows me that Web Shield active and there is a report on bottom section that avast scanned the site (or something like that) that I visited.
