Problem!

I need some info please.

Sometimes when I go to web sites Like http://www.desktopgirls.com/index4.html which I now know has spyware or something. So I don’t go there anymore. But why is it that when Avast Alarm pops up telling me there is a virus my PC freezes? And the only way to get out of that is to restart my pc. I was at a different site that also found a virus or something and my pc froze again. It will not let me click on Delete the virus. It only seems to do this on web sites. If Avast finds a virus in a program on pc like Phonetray which happened yesterday my pc does not freeze. ???

When you click on a wallpaper at that site the virus alarm comes up and freezes my pc. Could someone else test this please. I would like if someone else can test so I can see if it just my pc that freezes. Thanks

I am using Avast Pro!

What operating system do you use?

I am using Windows XP Home. And I will get that other info for you real soon. I need to go to the site and make it happened again. But my pc will freeze so give me a few mins

I checked and found the infection. However, no freeze occurs here…

So, when the virus dialog appears, it freezes immediatelly? Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn’t do anything?
Does avast! play any sound when the virus dialog is shown? If you go to the program settings and turn off all the avast! sounds, does it change anything?

What is your web browser?

That web site is messed up. When I clicked on 1 of the girls it wanted to install some java applet, I said no and it froze Firefox >:( I had to reboot in order for Firefox to work again.

Avast didn’t give me any warnings when this happened, probably because I didn’t install the java applet

[edit]= Ok in IE I get the same problem as gate1975mlm, Avast pops up with JS:Istbar [Trj] virus warning and everything freezes up. Avast says it can’t delete, move or rename because virus is being used by another program.

Ctrl+Alt+Del fixes everything in IE.

Yes it freezes immediatelly. Yes I get the girl voice saying there is a virus on my computer. And no Ctrl+Alt+Del does not un freeze my computer.

gate1975mlm, do you use IE or some other browser?
I really don’t think it could change anything, but try to turn off avast! sounds, just for sure…

Ok I have found out something!

I have 3 users on my pc and the freezing only happens on 2 out of the 3 users. We each have our own log on screen. And we all have the same things running in the backround. so something must have gotten messed up with 2 of the user log ons. Yes I use IE

Are there any differences between the users, regarding access-rights?

Well all the users are on Administrator Account. I also made a new user account and no freezing for that user also. So I guess somethimg just got messed up.

So, the virus is reported (in the On-Access Scanner Message) in http://www.desktopgirls…, right? (i.e. not e.g. in C:\Documents and Settings.…)
If it’s so, it means that it’s detected by the Script Blocker… please, open the On-Access Scanner Control Window (click on the avast! tray icon), select the Script Blocker provider and on the “Advanced” Page, turn on the “Silent Mode”.
This way, the Virus Dialog will not be displayed (but the access to the infected page will still be denied, so you don’t have to worry about getting infected). Does it help?
