problems after an update.

I updated Avasta, and after the reboot of my PC, Avast is not working anymore.
It opens, but I cant activate any shield and I can’t scan PC.
I also tried to reinstall the licence, but it’s not recognized.

What can I do now?

No need to attach at screen shot at this time. However, I do need some information from you:

  1. What is your OS, 32 or 64-bit?
  2. What version of Avast do you have?
  3. What product of Avast do you have? Free, Pro, AIS?
  4. What other security software do you currently have or did you have in the past on this machine including antivirus (AV), firewall (FW), and other security programs? If they were in the past, how did you remove them (the vendor’s uninstaller’s tool or another way)?
  5. Did you just update Avast or was this a new (fresh / clean) install?
  6. When you look at the bottom toolbar of Avast, is there a red “X” or a yellow “!” or yellow triangle over the orange ball?
  7. When you open the Avast GUI, do it tell you that you are “Unsecured” or give you any other kind of message? If so, what does it say?
  8. Why were you trying to reinstall the license?
  9. Is your computer acting normally other than Avast not working? While Avast is not working, please turn on Windows Defender (MS antivirus) for protection as resident.

You might try to Repair Avast:

Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > Avast Antivirus > Remove.
Then choose Repair function in the pop- up window (Repair). Reboot.

If this does not work, please let me know and I will instruct you on how to uninstall and reinstall Avast using the Avast Uninstaller Tool, but before we go there, please respond to the questions above.

I am also having problems. I am not a very technical person so I definitely need help! The last update Avast told me to do messed up the pictures I am able to view on the internet. When I pull up various internet sites, instead of getting a picture I get the white box with the little red X in it. When I right click on the box and choose “show picture” nothing comes up.

What should I do?

Are you using NoScript or something to disable Flash in your browser? Have you tried a different browser to see if the same thing happens? Which browser(s) do you use?

When was the last time you updated your Avast definitions and did a scan? Were you clean (no malware/infection)?

Is your machine acting normally otherwise?

Did this problem occur just after doing the Avast upgrade or prior to this? Did you reboot after the upgrade? Thank you.
