Problems after Install

Hi there, we have just installed avast! pro edition on our 2 computers and are now having problems logging onto some internet sites (bank site etc). Does anyone know why this is? Should I disable the script blocker? Thanks

The script blocker, nor any other element of avast blocks, it scans for malicious content and if found will alert you to it not block a site.

I would assume that these Bank sites are secure, e.g. https: avast doesn’t monitor/scan https content, it can’t it is encrypted.

This could well be a firewall issue as this has been previously reported with Zone Alarm Pro and its privacy settings.
Do you use ZA Pro ?
if so then check out this link http://www.avast.com/eng/webshield_issues.html

What is your OS ?
What is you firewall if not ZA Pro.
Do you have any cookie blocking software ?

Also, do you have certain cookie blocking rules set up in your browser?

Hi, we are using Windows 98, we do not use ZA Pro and in fact have just realised we have no firewall, oops!
The browser is not set up to block cookies, just not to keep any history and not autocomplete.
We are a small business with 2 computers and just use the computer for internet use, email, word processing and bookkeeping really, no one here has a great computer knowledge.
From what I can tell as long as the internet sites use HTML submit buttons we can log in but if they use images and javascript submit links we cannot log in. Thanks for your help.

Well, the easiest thing to do is - try. Stop Script Blocker and see if it makes any difference. You may also try to temporarily disable Web Shield, if you use it.
If you find out that it’s really avast! that makes the difference, we’d like to know what site it is and how to reproduce the problem.

I guess you are now urgently seeking a firewall for your systems, without on your systems are wide open and could be seriously compromised and could contribute to the slow down.

If you haven’t already got this software, download, install, update and run it or its equvilent.

  1. Ad-Aware
  2. Spybot Search and Destroy
  3. Spywareblaster Don’t install this until you are clean.

I would also suggest an on-line anti-spyware scan of your systems http://www.spywareinfo.com/xscan.php
