Hi,
After the update to the version 4.7.942 we had some problems with one of our Pc, a laptop.
We rebooted, as it was asked, and then the computer became very very very slow. It took more than 11mn to give the sum up setup window. On an other PC but older it took only 16s !!!
There is no spyware on the laptop. And avast always running on it.
We tried to take off the update by the Windows utilities who takes back the computer to the last right configuration but we had no possibilities.
Is there anybody who can help us.
Thanks. Nat
We will need more information to be able to help you:
- Which OS are you using? Is it up to date?
- Which actions have you taken to try solving the problem?
- Do you use a firewall? Which one?
- Do you have any other antivirus installed in your system?
- Any other security programs that could interfere?
- Any useful information into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Events, specially ‘Errors’.
The os is Windows XP SP2 up to date.
I tried to take off the avast update, but I cannot.
I checked for spy ware with ad-aware, I found some, and I removed them and the problem stays.
My firewall is Zone Alarm
I have not any other antivirus installed.
I think I have no more other security programs except on my adsl box and on my ethernet hub.
And no errors.
Perhaps I can remove the current avast and down load an other release and I can install it. Perhaps it will run well !!!
My other Pc have the same configuration and there is no problem on it, we are in the same home network.
Few days ago, I had the same problem after I have remove adobe reader 7 and install the 8th. I had also an avast up date program.
Then I used the windows utility to take back what I’ve done, and then there was no more problem, it runs well.
Thank you for your help

Sometimes an update of the program does not go well. Uninstall/install is an option. You may also want to run the removal tool. Avast usually cleans up really well, but just in case…
Download it to your desk top from here
(download both avast and the tool before uninstalling)
http://avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html
Uninstall through add\remove
reboot
run the tool by double clicking the program on your desk top
reboot
reinstall
don’t forget to update
Thank you,
I have removed avast with the uninstall avast utility and I have re install it.
And I have scanned the Pc with the cleaner utility. There were no viruses.
And now it runs well.
Thanks a lot. Nat
Remember that the Cleaner is a very limited version of avast Home.
If you want to scan, run a full, archive includes, scanning with full avast
