1)if there is no network connection,when I click the icon of avast on the task-bar ,the main interface does’t display until 2 or more seconds later,sometimes, even freezed. :-[
2)in the old vision,we can set the Sensitivity,Packers in Quick scan ,Full system scan and other scans ,but now ,there are all Gray .I don’t know whether it is a bug or not ,but I really think it’s not personalized and free.I wish these settings will come back soon!!
3)in the recent Retrospective/Proactive Test of AV-C,result of the avast 5.0 is not very prefect,behind avire bitdefinder eset for a not short distance,especially in Worms scanning.I think avast should be the best. >:(
4)Behavior Shield is still too quiet, :-[ could it be a little active? ???
5) if a web site in avast’s blacklist ,I can’t visit it unless I turn down the network shield. :-[
I know avast 5.0 is just a beginning ,and avast is making progress day by day,but I just want avast 5.0 become stronger quicker and quicker!!
And I believe that 5.1 or higher will give us a safer and better avast!

not the first time I read that. I’ve seen more then once people complaining that they couldn’t visit a site blocked by the network shield. Never seen that happen…don’t know where you guys are browsing ??? ;D those blocked sites are sites hosting malware, and you shouldn’t be there in the first place
yeah ,but sometimes the site remove the malware but still in the blacklist ,updating blacklisk needs time.
Maybe is not a big problem.
BUT the first two problems need some changes maybe. :-\
2.It’s not a bug, 5.0.945 is designed like this.
3.Avast! doesn’t seem to be good at heuristic scan, and there should never be the ‘best’ software, by all means. Furthermore, are you expecting any AV to exceed ESET in terms of heuristic scan…
4.Let’s looking forward to the next version… I’ve never seen its behavior shield to block a single application.
5.Usually, if you insisit on visiting a website, you can try to refresh it after it’s blocked (The page should notify that it’s been re-directed), chances are the certain page’s opened successfully… That’s what happened to me. Furthermore, you can add the sites you’re 100% certain to be safe to the ‘Exclusions’ of WebShield. (Real-time shield>>WebShield>>Expert Settings>>Exclusions)
As for 1… I don’t know…
Mmmm…talking about behavior shield, i think they will improve it starting from ver 5.1 (avast 5 is pretty young). I noticed also that a very famous chinese antivirus (RISING), had a huge improvement in behavior bloking… basically it’s capable to block everything…even if signature detection is not so effective…look at the last rising video reviews on youtube…quite impressive.
Note: I don’t want to advertise another product, even avast devs probably know there’s a lot of competition in this field…and i’m still thinking they done a great job, but as chinese devs had managed to improve their product, I suppose avast team could do it…even better.!!
Eh… Actually nowdays Rising is becoming less and less famous, what more people are concerning is MicroPoint, it’s even more sufficient but is weak at self-protection. It’s a smart HIPS-based software and is more effective than ThreatFire, it can even delete virus codes selectively so that the file fould be used after being infected, hence it got quite a high ablity of file-repairing.

Also, don’t confuse the web shield and the network shield: white listing a web site in the web shield settings won’t whitelist it for the network shield. There’s no access to the network shield settings
ps: you could change hidden settings for the preset scans, if you were a bit more curious >>> in the meantime, try to create a custom scan ;D
It seems avast! Chinese version could modify these settings before, although other language version (at least English / Japanese) could not do that. ??? :
And comicwm, please make your own custom scan to modify these settings. Current design is what avast!5 is supposed to be.

But actually it did happen to me, although I also wonder how come it was like this…
I UPDATED TO AVAST 5 PRO ON JUNE 4, 2010…SHORTLY AFTER THAT I REALIZED THAT IT WAS PREVENTING EMAIL WITH ATTACHMENTS (ACROBAT) AND LATTERLY ALL EMAILS FROM SENDING
I CALLED PRAGUE AND SPOKE TO SUPPORT WHO PROMISED TO SEND ME INSTRUCTIONS BUT DIDN’T…I STOPPED AVAST FIREWALL TO NO EFFECT.
I COULD NOT FIX IT AND INSTALLED AVAST HOME AND IT WORKED WITH NO DIFFICULTY
I AM ON XP PRO SP3 MS OUTLOOK 7
I REINSTALLED AVAST 5 PRO TODAY AND HAVE THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM…SWITCHING OFF THE AVAST FIREWALL AND SWITCHING OFF SCAN DOCUMENTS BEFORE SENDING DOES NOT SEEM TO DO THE TRICK

This could quite easily be mix up configuration with that set up that you have - XP Outlook 2007 and Acrobat

I am new here and for the first time I would like to ask you something, related to the Avast 5.0 pro, latest version. In the program settings accidentally I set the password which applies only to program settings, but the problem is, I don’t know what password I entered, so can I disable the password protection by deleting for example some files which store my password for Avast or do something else? I know that the best solution is to remove and again install Avast, but you maybe have another appinion?
you should have started a new thread 'cause that’s a different topic…this said, I don’t know of any way to remove the password when you lost it. Never had to find out. But there must be a way…anyone? otherwise as said, you’re left with uninstalling and re-installing.
Problem solved! After first removal and again installation of Avast antivirus, I noticed some problems with the problem, it couldn’t run properly, but at the second removal and install it works fine now! Can two uninstallations and two installations make some problems or damage my Windows?
