Problems updating virus database in XP home SP2

Hello folks,

this is my first message

I installed XP home and SP2, then all my other stuff including avast! 4.7.942.

My working account has no admin rights.

Updating seems to work ok but I after each update I get the (red) message box saying that my virus database is outdated.

The info screen of avast! indeed tells me the virus database is

I already tried to find out if there are missing access rights:

But except the attempt to create the setup.ini file and a dll (which both exist) there are no “access denied” errors.

Michael

Check your system date, especially the month and year (though from your log it seems correct), correct if required. The current VPS is 735-0.

I can’t see anything obvious in the log.

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.

I suggest you also do a manual program update as we are now at 4.7.986.

Hi, as I would have to log in as admin I chose not to repair.

Downloaded the latest version and it works so far!

Regards, Michael

No problem, the main thing is you are now sorted.
