I recently installed Avast’s AV software and now for some reason i can no longer open up IE and windows media player. Every time i do attempt i notice something about the script blocker for a short period then it goes away. I have tried disabling and pausing the script blocker but this has had no effect. This has also happened on my laptop and i really need at least 1 machine to be able to use IE for those rare database pages you just can’t view in firefox.
Here is my system
Windows XP
Build Jun2004 (4.1.418)
Xtreme toolkit ( 1.9.4.0)
Active skin (4.2.7.3)
Reg key … hah just kiddin…
Did you install SP2?
How are the IE scripts configurated to work? (allowed, blocked…)
Anyway, it’s strange that with the Script Blocker disabled it still brings problems… Did you try to uninstall it?
SP2 was previously installed b/f i installed the AV software.
Upon removing Avast AV i can now run IE, but the media player gives an internal error now.
I sent a email to the support email address at Avast and have yet to hear a response.
strange this has affected both my pc’s in the same manner yet noone else has this problem.
well the script settings are simply default… IE when i look into that provider it lists IE, Firefox, and Netscape… each w/ a check mark next to it… and editing those does nothing for me.
my WMP version is the newest ( 10 ) and is the same on both laptop and desktop.
avast is working properly on both machines… ie detecting virii and eliminating… etc etc
this is the only problem i’m having… although i consider it a serious one
i also have the newest java runtime installed on both machines. and have seen nothing to make me begin to think that it may be the source of my frustration.
