Problems while installing AIS latest verion

I’m an Avast regular user so when my AV on my laptop expired (McAfee) I decided to install Avast, so I went and got a new license. After downloading the setup I started the installation process and added the license file. When the installation process reached the firewall step, I lost my internet connection completely and the installation process stops working, I even let the computer on all night and next day the firewall step was still on screen.

I took a deeper look and discovered my network card wasn’t available any more and the system was saying there was no network card at all. Same goes for the WiFi hardware.

The only way to fix all this was to restore my computer to a previous point. Lucky for me, my most recent restoration point was from 2 days back.

I tried to install Avast once again several times with the same results each time.

A week has passed and my computer has no anti-virus at all.

I want to know how to solve this issue, I really want to have and use avast on my laptop.

I have Win 7. Dell Inspiron, Intel Core i3 m380 2.53GHz - 4 GB Ram - OS 64-bit

did you remove McAfee before installing avast ?

have you run a removal tool to clear any leftovers ?

run and reboot - Uninstallers for Security Software

I did removed McAfee completely. No removal tool has been installed.

you dont install it, you download to desktop and run, then reboot…when done you drag and drop the tool in recyle bin

then try installing avast again

OK, I have downloaded the removal tool from McAfee website.

Before doing anything else, I have created a new restoration point. Then I un-installed McAfee, Reboot, run the removal tool, reboot, and then I tried to install Avast. I end having the same issue, when the installer reached the firewall step, Avast basically killed my WiFi Adapter and my network card as well. Windows is telling me there are no such hardware installed. I don’t know what’s happening, but I need to find out a way to solve this. Any idea out there. Does anyone else has been having this kind of issue?

One more thing…

After reaching the step where my WiFi adapter and network cards are basically killed. I just close the installer window, I got a msg telling me that avats will not be installer and if I want to I can run the installer later, so I press ok, and terminate the setup. If I try to run the installer once again after terminating the previous instance of the installer. I end with this error msg “Setup cannot be started at this time. avast is currently updating. Please wait until it finishes and run setup again.”

I’m really sure avast its doing nothing, unless the update its taking more than 24 hours to download!~

I will restore my computer right now to the restoration point created by me before all this.

So the connection problem starts at the very same moment / while installing Avast?

Maybe you should review again any pre-installed tools. Then get the removal utility for Avast http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility. Run it under Windows Safe Mode.

Reboot and download again ANEW the setup.exe of Avast.

Please save a new restore point.

Now please disconnect any network connections and disable your WIFI.

Run the Avast installer as admin (right click, “Run as Administrator”). Immediately after installation, please reboot (even before anything else, before configuring, before updating).

After reboot, wait a couple of minutes for all system services to be active (including Avast services). I’m not kidding. At LEAST 2 minutes (100 would be much better).

Configure Avast → troubleshooting → “load Avast service only after other services”.

Reactivate your connections, but don’t update Avast yet. Once the Network Center recognizes your re-enabled connections, reboot yet one more time.

Please report back

A new version will soon be out… the beta can be tested now…do not know if it will solve this
