Try running a repair on Avast. Go to the control panel and click on programs and features. Find Avast and click on uninstall. The Avast uninstaller will give you the option to repair it. If that is unsuccessful then simply re-install Avast.

Did the repair before posting it took two re installs to get it to work and then I notice avast had a hijacker called google drive. I had found this on my computer the other day and removed it. Is this something that avast requires now to run? and why was I not asked before this was installed on my computer? Or at least informed by the avast installed that it would be installed I really dont like having google on hereā€¦

It is not a Hijacker. Google Drive is a cloud storage app which is used by millions including myself. When you installed Avast you had the option to not install Google Drive by unticking the check mark. You must have missed this. Just uninstall it. I love how people complain about Google but yet Google is the first place they go when searching for something online. I use everything Google. I even own a Chromebook.

Not everyone uses Google first. The only thing of Googleā€™s that I use is the map search (and thatā€™s not very often). I use Ixquick for all my other searches, IE10 for my browser, and Yahoo for my email. I trust Google about as far as I can spit upwind in a stiff breeze. Once thing I noticed when I pretty much quit using Google was the amount of spam I had been getting dropped dramatically.

FYIā€¦Yahoo email has been hacked for the passed months and has been rated one of the worst web based emails. Outlook.com and Gmail are the top web based email.

Alsoā€¦Unless you have something to add to correct cyberrat problem its best to keep your comments to yourself.

Maybe you should do the same. ::slight_smile:

FYIā€¦Notice I replied first with a way to help cyberrat. Has anyone else offered help? No and thank you.

ofcourse it would....you got a new mail address

anyway, Gmail has the best spam/virus filter of all the web mails
using postini spam/virus filter with two AV engines from Authentium and McAfee

Which version of avast, free, Pro, AIS or Premier? What other security software do you have now or ever had? If uninstalled how was it uninstalled?
Security software includes anti-virus, firewall and anti-spyware/malware.

Two things you might want to try. Repair while in safe mode or a clean install.

For a clean installā€¦

  1. download and save http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
  2. download and save the version you desire

Download locations
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_premier_antivirus_setup.exe

  1. run uninstaller from step #1 (you will be prompted to reboot into safe mode, click ā€œyesā€)
  2. reboot into normal mode
  3. install avast from step #2
  4. reboot and register

Watch out for the Chrome opt-out screen.

Thank you. I had Yahoo several years ago. Spam folder would be filled with at least 200/day. 2 years with Gamil and 0 spam.

Para-Noidā€¦In reply #1 he stated that he fixed the problem. Thanks.

Iā€™m looking but I canā€™t seem to find Avast under your username. ???

My reply is the second one. But the first one so it is rated ā€œreply #1ā€. Again please refrain from posting unless you actually have something helpful to add. Thanks. Here is an example of helping a forum user.

ā€œAgain please refrain from posting unless you actually have something helpful to add?ā€ When someone from Avast tells me to refrain from posting I will. You sir/madame have no say about what I post. ::slight_smile:

I donā€™t and never have trusted Google. I do have gmail but very seldom use it.

Well Iā€™m not from avast, but the pair of you need to pack it in as it isnā€™t helping this topic at all, not to mention the OP considers it resolved.

As both of you are saying if you arenā€™t contributing to the topic subject then donā€™t contribute.

Donā€™t make the mistake of saying Iā€™m not contributing, Iā€™m intervening.
