I’m using Vista Business (final version) with avast Home Edition 4.7.942
I have a lot of problems:
I can’t change the “resident protection”. It stays “deactivated”. When I change to “Standard”, exit the programm and start it again, it is still “deactivated”.
I have no tray icon in the taskbar!!
It is not possible to deinstall avast. Vista shows a error message “… module can’t be loaded” when trying to deinstall with system control.
Sorry about my bad english. I had to translate all the german messages into english.
Perhaps anybody can help me??
Yes there was installed Avira Antivir Personal Edition Classic. But I’ve uninstalled it before installing avast. It is still listed at “Installed Antivirus software” in system control but with status “off”. (sorry for “deinstall” in my previous posting, of course I meant “uninstall”).
For sure, this is the reason of the avast problem, I mean, being deactivated.
How did you uninstall Avira? I know that there is a tool for complete uninstall it… I should search a little…
Avira AntiVir RegistryCleaner: http://www.avira.com/en/support/support_downloads.html
But I’m not sure it will remove AntiVir version 7, only 6 (the free one). Which one were you using?
Hey,
I’ve quite the same problem :(:
I have succeffully installed Avast! 4.7.942 localized in Italian,
but I have no tray icon in the taskbar
(ever if I can see the processes ashMailSv, ashServ, ashWebSc, aswUpdSv in the task manager ???).
My O.S. is Vista Business x86 (Italian) and
I’ve never installed any other antivirus softwares.
Was the avast installation made to the default location ?
If not, try a reinstall into the default location, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot.
What other security based software do you have that might block new startup entries, e.g. Spybot S&D (TeaTimer), AdAware (AdWatch), SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor (StartUpGuard), PrevX, WinPatrol, ProcessGuard, etc. ?
The default location is C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4 I don’t know if this changes with different language versions of windows. Is ashDisp.exe in that location ?
I don’t use Vista so I’m not sure if this is the same for Vista:
Make a link to ashdisp.exe in your startup folder.
Or Add the path to ashDisp.exe into a value named avast! in the Windows Registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
