Problems with avast Pro & Mozilla Thunderbird email

I’m having problems with avast Pro, Started two days ago. I can not download my email with avast running. I get an error with the server. If I stop all the avast services I can get my mail. I only have this problem with my main mail server. It’s an .coop domain name it worked fine until windows & avast updated. Is there a confict problem with windows XP SP3? I know I have had problems in the past with sp3 & I don’t download it.

No, there isn’t any conflict with XP SP3 or any other Windows.
Which firewall are you using? Is ashMaiSv.exe allowed to connect?
Did you use any other antivirus program in the past? How did you remove it?
Do you use any antispam tool?

I had a similar problem with Avast Home Edition and Thunderbird. Email would download okay, but out-going mail would get hung up.

I tried setting the program not to check out-going mail, but that didn’t work, though shutting Avast down completely did allow mail to go out.

Finally, I found that by

  • opening the On-Access Protection Control panel,
  • selecting the Internet Mail installed provider,
  • clicking the Customize button in the Sensitivity setting area,
  • selecting the Redirect tab, and
  • making two changes there

finally did allow me to send email. The two changes I had to make were

  • setting the correct port number for my Thunderbird configuration, and
  • entering my out-going mail SMTP address in the “Ignored Addresses” space.

That solved my problem. Hope it helps you.

Your email (outbound) is not being scanned…
Which is your email provider? (GMail?)

See my post in another thread. I am also having the same problem with outgoing mail. Unchecking scan outgoing mail fixes my problem.
