I just installed Avast on my computer! I was having a conflict with Windows Defender and Avast . Called tech support and they refused to help me with the issue unless i paid them to have a tech log into my computer and fix the issue!!! Is that normal? No instructions to install or instructions how to get thier product to function properly are available for download
As far as i know if you dont turn Windows firewall off and Windows Defender off avast cant protect your computer because of the conflict. Shouldnt they tell you that? My old computer crashed from a virus that avast didnt catch now im wondering if i turned off both of those programs or was i running on the net thinking i was protected when i really was not at all!!!
Defender on vista and win7 doesn’t conflict with avast but Defender is not needed so best off disabled, Avast also works fine with the windows firewall.
You can also layer your security protection. One way is to use Malwarebytes-Antimalware (MBAM) - there are 2 versions (Premium and Free); Premium is working behind the scene and scanning/updating all the time while Free is on-demand. Most of us here use Premium; worth the money.
Another way is to take a look at user’s Signatures like mine and other Evangelists to see the add-on’s in their browsers for extra protection, and always keep your software up to date. I’m sure others will chime in with other suggestions and I can go on and on, but I will let them comment as well.
It would help if you’d let us know what operating system you’ve got. If XP, then Windows Defender (WD) is not native to the operating system (XP) as it is with Vista and Win 7. Windows Defender in Win 8 is an entirely different animal, so again, share what OS you’ve got on your system. Is it Win 8 here?
