Hi all. I have been using Avast since it’s very early days and have never had a problem. However after updating to the latest version(have always updated without issues)it is now using all my cpu(e8500 dual core) and I am unable to perform any tasks whilst it is scanning files. I don’t use any other AVs. I run this in conjunction with Comodo firewall and have done so for years, again with no issues. I haven’t tried a clean install as I have never had to do this before.
I use XP Pro SP3. Is this a bug or do we now have to uninstall old versions now before installing the latest. I have no desire to switch to another AV as this is by far the best free AV on the market.
Many thanks for any assistance.

Hi Mrpanorama,
If you check task manager which process is using all the CPU?
Try disabling Shields one by one to see if problem goes away starting with file system shield.
Does this happen with a particular application or randomly?
Otherwise before reinstalling try resetting avast to factory default.
