hi mchain & jeffce. can i save the backup to a cd or dvd ? will this be my main backup disk ? if i have to remove my pics or anything important, please let me know as i lost these so many times when i didn’t know i could save them, but the 4th time i found out i could save them, another long story for another time.
when jeffce says to copy & paste, does he mean the whole box undeer the services ? thanks guys for helping.
hi. i hope i did the ERUNT right. it saved it to the ERUNT folder, whereever that is.
i came back, got the info for the OTL, copy & pasted, & ran the fix. it was doing it’s speedy scan, but then came up “not responding”. about 2 min. later the computer restarted & a box from ERUNT came ip & said i would have to save items manually. now i’m scared, what did i do ??? the first log is where all this happened.
so, i figured maybe it was done & i did the rescan. log # 2
let me know if i redo these & how can i copy the ERUNT to a back-up cd or dvd ? is that allowed ?
later the computer restarted & a box from ERUNT came ip & said i would have to save items manually.
Don't worry about this. It happens because of the UAC with your operating system which is not allowing an automatic run of the program. Just disregard it for now and we can fix that up later....but nothing is wrong. :) Oh...don't worry about backing up ERUNT to a disk either right now...let's get your system cleaned up first so that the malware isn't sitting in the registry.

Ok…for running OTL. Looks like there were some problems with that. Please boot to Safe Mode and try to run the fix that I provided earlier with OTL from there.
ok. got into safe mode, haven’t done that in a very long time, had to think about what was going on. ok, scan 10 is the safe mode. scan 11 is the quick scan as i did the quick scan earlier or yesterday. i unchecked those not to be checked & when the quick scan started, they re-checked themselves. well, here we go. hope i get good news.
Great job getting that ran. If you have any questions as we go along or if you are unsure of how to do something be sure to let me know.
Malwarebytes
I see that you have Malwarebytes already on your computer. Please open Malwarebytes, update it and then run a Quick Scan. Save the log that is created for your next reply.
Please run a free online scan with the ESET Online Scanner Note: You will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan
[*]Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use
[*]Click Start
[*]When asked, allow the ActiveX control to install
[*]Click Start
[*]Make sure that the options Remove found threats is NOT selected and the option Scan unwanted applications is selected.
[*]Click Scan (This scan can take several hours, so please be patient)
[*]Once the scan is completed, you may close the window Use Notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner[b]log.txt
[*]Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic
In your next reply please attach the logs created.
i will definately let you know if i have problems. i got malwarebytes here thru an article mchain gave me, i just don’t how to get the log files from the malwarebytes.
i agree with you, the ESET online scanner is a time consuming scan. microsoft support had me use this, i think it was, last month when i had problems with their security essentials. it came up negative.
When Malwarebytes completes its scan a log will automatically pop up. Just save that to your Desktop and then attach it here along with the ESET scan when you get that completed as well.
yea, i feel dumb now. i had just wrote that when malwarebytes asked me where i wanted it svaed to. sorry. eset still running, 42 %. as long as it gets done soon, i’ll send to you.
hi & good memorial day to you. i ren ESET last nite, i can’t find the log.txt anywhere. it said there was no infections, but i can’t find a log file. i’m sorry.
enclosed is the malwarebytes log file. thanks bunches
i think i finally found the ESET, had to go the long, long way. i hope i got it. should be the second one.
when i went looking for the ESET log file, (had to open ESET in my computer & work my way to the log file,), something popped up & said that wasn’t allowed. it’s done that twice today.
something with the new registry backup, also said it couldn’t back the ?? whatever it was, up. did i mess up the ERUNT the other day when the OTL quit responding ? after ITL automatically restarted, the ERUNT kept telling me, i think anyway, invalid file or couldn’t find or couldn’t back up. it did this at least 7 times. i just kept hitting the yes as it was highlighted. did i do right or did i mess something up ?
other than those things, it’s been ok. got my emails & business taken care of. avast has updated the virus ware at least twice today.
the only thing that makes me mad is when i restart, the norton online backup icon is still showing up in the hp advisor dock. also, when i open the advisor dock, the a/v is yellow (avast isn’t showing up) & the firewall is red (again, avast isn’t showing up as the firewall). i did turn off the windows firewall for the system, the public networks & the home or private networks both for the centurylink, when i got the avast internet security. do these stay off ?
other than those, i haven’t seen any wierdness yet. thank you again.
Ok let’s fix up ERUNT… You are getting the warnings about ERUNT because the UAC that is part of your operating system is not allowing it to run on startup. We will shut that off and just run it ERUNT manually about once a week to back up your registry. To turn it off do the following…
Go to Start >> in the Start Search bar type Run >> select Run when it populates above >> type msconfig >> go to the Startup tab >> uncheck any entry you see with ERUNT >> reboot your system and then let me know if the warning comes up.
do i want norton ?? no way. i’ve had norton; microsoft security essentials; & several others. right now i am very pleased with the avast, keep the avast !!!
oh, i forgot to tell you when i got the avast, first it downloaded as a trial even though i paid. i came back the next day for the license, avast was running already. i started checking out all avast offers on the desktop, not changing anything. now, about 5 days ago, right before i got into the forum, i tried to look again at the settings. i can’t log in to anything with the password avast gave me, it says invalid password. i changed my password for avast after i got the license, but it also is invalid. am i not to look at any of the settings anywhere ? in the shields, protection, etc. will do the msconfig here shortly, about 10 min. thanks again. i’ll be back.
