Hi
WHen I started my PC today (25 Feb 2005) I got the usual notification that there were updates to install. I allowed the updates and my PC was rebooted.
I was then using Newsbin4 to download headers from binary newsgroups when for some reason the headers were not appearing. I saw that the activity lights on my broadband router were going mad. I then used Windows Task Mamager to see what was using the CPU time. It was being used extensively by the process ashMaisv.exe, which is, I believe, Avast’s email scanner. I then shut down Newsbin but the activity lights kept on going mad and the CPU usage continued. I rebooted my PC and the activity lights were ok. UNTIL I tried the same process again!
I then stopped ashMaisv.exe in Task Manager and then Newsbin4 operated just how it used to and was ok.
I am using a fully patched up to date version of XP home and have a 1 Mb broadband connection.
Any ideas?
Does THIS THREAD solves it?

Thanks for your advice.
That thread did seem to solve the problem AND I now have found the search function.
Class!
Which solution solved it? For me, it was a combo of the patch and disabling NNTP scanning, which is sad because it would be great to have every file scanned. Unfortunately, the delay is tremendous and it slows down the news reader to a crawl.
