I have used the free Avast service for a long time and rarely had any problems with it. For that, thank you.
However, the latest version 7 seems to have problems, some of which have been discussed in depth on other forums. A quick search throws up numerous results.
Mine sometimes hangs and generally takes a lot longer to start though I dont get BSOD. It will eventually fully boot into windows. Still, I do wonder what is going on.
I dont like to complain to much about something free, especially when I have used it for such a long time trouble free. I appreciate what the developers have put into it but I think this latest version needs a few bug fixes.
Not loading it until all other services have started, no rootkit scan and hard disc access and disabling this Google Chrome as default browser seems to help a little on occasions but it still hangs sometime.
System is Windows 7 64bit Laptop, AMD Dual core and 4gb Ram.
So, just a little moan, nothing serious but please make it smooth and unobtrusive again. It used to be a joy to use.
I’m sure, Smooth and unobtrusive is always the bottom line for Avast.
But one must remember, software programming is IMHO is extremely daunting; I mean, being able to play nice with all the various OS’s and configurations of additional software programs on those OS’s is some achievement! :
I have used Avast for some time now and have experienced the developments. GReat Stuff! 8)
I’m sure it is and like I said, I have used the programme for some time … and appreciate it.
Ok, so if I choose loading AVAST after the other start up programmes, my desktop shows up and loads without issues. However, I can’t access the internet for some time afterwards, in essence what I assume the time it takes to then load AVAST. Whilst this is not a huge problem (its perhaps around a minute and a half or so) it still is midly annoying considering the problem wasn’t there with the previous version (I kept it updated but cant recall version #). If on the other hand I start AVAST ‘normal’ ie. with other programmes it takes longer for the desktop to load but I can then access the internet immediately.
Either way, the time is about the same.
So, do I choose the devil I know and just leave it be as it is having read others have more serious problems or do I remove AVAST and any previous versions of it (I have no other security ware on the laptop and removed Norton trial completely as soon as I bought the lappy) with the AVAST removal tool and try to re-install??
No worries.
On my OS and configuration, from log on to completion of loading processes etc. is just under 2 minutes either way; loading before or after services.
