Problems with Windows Media Streaming (asx file extension)?

We have a user who has been able to listen to our online radio station online for years. Then at the end of May they tried Avast 4.1 Home and now are unable to listen. We haven’t changed anything on our side which would prohidit their ability to listen. It is also odd, that is they hit a link to another one of our radio stations, they are able to listen. The only real difference is the extension of the file which they click on (ASX vs PHP). Or maybe this has something to do with mime-types?

Has anyone run into this type of thing before? We are 90% sure that this relates to the install of Avast, but was we do not have 100% control over the user’s computer and some little detail may have been left out.

http://www.moody.edu/wmbi.php - this is a test which sucks in the above .asx file and prints it out with the correct content type header. We are gonna see if the user can use the .php instead of the .asx (but this is not seen as a solution)

Thanks. The machine which the user is running Avast (and Windows Media Player) is a Windows 98 box using the WMP 6.4. I don’t suspect that the Windows version plays into this, unless there is some odd conflict between Avest and Windows 98. At/Around the same time, the user noticed that some of the buttons on his Yahoo Mail stopped working. He did check, and the IE settings appeared to be defaults.

Does Avest change any settings in IE when it is installed?

Not really. The Script Blocker does mess up with IE a bit but it’s not part of the Home Edition so it’s out of question here…
