Hey guys i just downloaded Avast yesterday and i already love it.i started out with the Avast Professional edition with the free trial. i upgraded to the home edition for free. and the home editions resident protection wont stay on standard it always disables itself when i close the avast window. can someone help me please? what do i do. i was thinking about just starting over and keep the professional edition until my trial is up.

Did you have Boot after switching to Home ? I think you should do a Repair of your Avast! for see if its will fix it.
Correct me if im wrong guy 
Yes i did and it didint work. but i got it now my problem was my windows firewall was blocking it for some aparent reason. Thanks for the help

The Windows firewall should not have been blocking it. It suggests another issue. The most likely is the presence of a previous security program. (Norton, McAfee, AVG etc…)
What did you use before installing Avast, and how was it uninstalled, please?

You need to use aswclear Avast removal tool and fully remove avast. REBOOT COMPUTER TWICE and reinstall Home edition. And re insert your key and should be OK!.
