thats why i posted the links above…so you can read and find out what it is
and i guess you use webmail… you log in and read your mail using your browser…
this is not scanned by mail shield, only if you use a mail program like outlook / outlook express / thunderbird to access and download mail to your computer
i use hotmail, and gmail are the 2 i use
Hi bobbi,
That is exactly the case here. Webmail is used, no p2p (peer-to-peer; aka torrent programs) are used, no IM’s (instant messaging programs) are used.
Outlook, Thunderbird, etc., are not installed or used for email. Avast! will only scan email when Outlook or some such is installed. Webmail comes with its own virus scanner, varies with the email provider. Avast! does not scan Webmail accounts. It will scan an attachment within the File System scanner if an attachment within the webmail used is downloaded and saved, though.
So, no email client scanning will ever occur on this system, no p2p scanning, no IM scanning, as none of these type of programs are installed here. Avast! cannot scan what is not there. I always have 0 for email, 0 for p2p, and 0 for IM. Since none are installed, I would become immediately suspicious if scanning activity would start at a later date, and then I would go and investigate.
You are getting this information from the real-time scanner tab, hence your question?
This is a case of one fits all, but the elements actually used depend on what is on the user system. Hope this helps to answer your question.
