Procedure To uninstall easy way

Dear Avast and Forums Friends,
For Me the easiest way to uninstall and reinstall
is using booting into safemode, review the procedure
for your version of windows.
It was the only way I could completely uninstall
Avast completely the avast icon was broken but its install location is secure
and hidden on your PC.
In safemode Avast defense is secured, remember in safe mode
you will not have protection so don’t choose to allow internet connections.
After a complete unistall in safe mode and a full install of paid,
everything was repaired and working…
if any of the forum moderators feels this is an unsafe practice please
delete this post, but I tried every other method failed, excellent security againts hackers
though… Doug new guy ;D

It rather depends on the reason you need to reinstall.

You should only require anything other than the windows add remove programs (programs and features) function, if the regular uninstall fails.

There are many topics where a clean reinstall is suggested, so there is no need to reinvent the wheel so to speak.

Clean reinstall:

  • Download the latest version of avast, and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn’t save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.

  • Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for both 5.x and 6.0.x).

    1. Now uninstall avast! (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 5.x if previously installed and then for 6.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.

The above ensures that you first get the tools (new program version, uninstall utility) before starting the job (uninstall/reinstall). This way you retain whatever protection you currently have, not knock the house down before getting the tools and materials.

If you can’t do it this way then use another computer to go on-line get the tools, save to USB, etc. and transfer to the system you are going to be working on.

HI
Thanks for the reply, tried to follow all the instructions, possibly
had messed up the uninstall process, or the firewall protected the icon
on the open running link at the bottom of the page that wouldn’t allow ME to close
it before starting the unistall process. That’s pretty normal for someone not familiar
with all aspects of the features being used.
Safemode does allow all parts to be removed.
Thanks Doug

A firewall shouldn’t stop you moving icon and avast Free or Pro doesn’t have a firewall.

Though you have me at a loss when you mentioned this “on the open running link at the bottom of the page that wouldn’t allow ME to close it before starting the unistall process.” I don’t know what ‘running link’ at the bottom of the ‘page.’ What page would that be.

Of course safe mode allows avast to be installed as avast doesn’t run in safe mode, which is why we say to run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode.

If you try to run the avast! Uninstall Utility from normal mode the avast self-defence module (not firewall) will prevent this, as that is its job, to try and stop malware disabling or uninstalling it.

How do you get to safe mode and the program does not APPEAR IN MY ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS BOX

Using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

I need to unistall as I am getting an error in my outlook keeps telling me that ashBase.dll is missing. ???

If there is no entry in add remove programs for avast! then you have a corrupt installation and it wouldn’t matter if you were in safe mode as the entry if missing in normal mode would also be missing in safe mode.

You need to download, save and use the avast! uninstall utility from safe mode as mentioned above.

Getting into safe mode is normally done by clicking F8 (keep pecking away at it) during boot and that should give the option to boot into safe mode.
