It rather depends on the reason you need to reinstall.
You should only require anything other than the windows add remove programs (programs and features) function, if the regular uninstall fails.
There are many topics where a clean reinstall is suggested, so there is no need to reinvent the wheel so to speak.
Clean reinstall:
-
Download the latest version of avast, and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn’t save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.
-
Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for both 5.x and 6.0.x).
-
- Now uninstall avast! (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 5.x if previously installed and then for 6.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.
The above ensures that you first get the tools (new program version, uninstall utility) before starting the job (uninstall/reinstall). This way you retain whatever protection you currently have, not knock the house down before getting the tools and materials.
If you can’t do it this way then use another computer to go on-line get the tools, save to USB, etc. and transfer to the system you are going to be working on.
