So I installed the newest version of Avast! today and it seems fine… but I noticed that whenever I try to disable any shield in the program (Web, File or Mail)… when you get that grey screen asking if you want to validate the shutdown… whenever I come back to my process monitor… a file called ctfmon.exe starts in my processes…
It’s classified as the “CTF Loader” and I have not seen this file in general activate in a massive amount of time. The file location also seems legit and I have scanned the file with multiple programs… with no result.
I’m on Windows 7 SP1. Anyone else have this issue or have seen this process run when they attempt to disable any shields?
Read that article already. No mention of anything regarding Windows 7. It tells you how to remove/disable it in all the other OS versions… I’ve seen this file before… but years ago.
Does anyone else get this process appear when they attempt to disable any shield? Wanna make sure it isn’t just me… it may be another bug with this version of the program.
No? There’s no-one else who has this issue too? Can no-one test to see if they can replicate this problem on Windows 7? Just go to Avast Shield Control > Turn off shields > accept the grey screen prompt and look in your processes to see if a process called ctfmon.exe has appeared.

Yeah, I know. But what does that have to do with Avast! exactly? I’ve tried to replicate this process appearing a multitude of other ways but haven’t been able to… it ALWAYS appears once I turn off any of the shields. The grey screen that appears when you attempt to turn off a shield is what is causing it to appear, though I don’t know why… it never did this in any of the previous versions of Avast! I’ve used.
