Profile menu, missing menu items?

Just wondered how I add/amend profile data such as signature, location, avatar etc. as when I access my profile all I see is

Profile Info
Summary
Show Stats
Show Posts

Modify Profile
Account Related Settings

i.e. no options such as
Forum Profile Information
Look and Layout Preferences
Notifications and Email
Personal Message Options

Actions
Delete this account

Before anyone asks, yes I am logged in when I look!

You need a minimum of 20 post before you can start making those changes and/or updates.
Welcome to the forum.

Short answer is you can’t, yet.

 • The problem comes from drive by spammers, who having registered put objectionable or commercial links in their profile signature to try and gain link promotion, etc.

There have also been cases of the PM function being abused to spam forum members, so you will notice that you can’t use the PM function either.

Unfortunately because of the actions of others legitimate members suffer by the actions to prevent this spamming.

OK thanks, that makes good sense. 8)

No problem, only 11 to go ;D

Yes, it makes sense re: spammers.

But it doesn’t make sense to force newbies to mentally adjust the forum time to their respective local time until they’ve made 20 posts.

In fact, that may cause enough aggravation in some newbies to encourage unnecessary or trivial posts in order to quickly modify that setting. That would be another type of forum spam.

Perhaps that setting could be available at registration?

The settings are I believe available at initial registration. However, the normal default setting is to auto detect for the forum time based on your Country, which seems to have been set by you as United States ?

So I don’t know why the time is incorrect, I know we are at a point in time where the time has its flip flop between summertime, etc. so I don’t know if that too might be a factor here as you don’t say what the time difference is.

There has also been a recent windows update (KB) relating to these time change settings, though this I would have thought been unrelated.

I leave the forum time set to the default time and that way I know when the official avast team might be on the forum.

After all, I already know my time here in the USA.

I’m not too sure, but I think that may not be right…

In the settings it says that the forum time currently is 5.17 which is an hour behind me.

However, I know that Prague is about an hour ahead of me…

I think the way the forum works is that, in blocking the profile sections, you can’t do it selectively, so there is no choice…And as said, it is available at initial registration…

The forum time is based on GMT and plus or minus depending on your time zone, but with the setting at auto detect, it should work that out correctly.

Yesterday I noticed my time was wrong by 1hr (in advance) that is why I think there was a switch in time zones, hence my comment in my last post. I don’t have mine set to auto detect though, as I use a custom date time format, which isn’t supported in the default auto detect function.

During registration, I didn’t notice any settable options; and I don’t remember being auto-detected in the USA (which might mean nothing more than an early symptom of Alzheimer’s disease?).

The Forum time is GMT-1, and I happen to be GMT-5; the summer time change is still weeks away.

Constantly making that 4-hour adjustment when reading posts tends to be a bit confusing, and unnecessary given the easy fix that’s available.

And if I hang around here long enough to reach the magical “20”, not needing to make that adjustment will become a new source of unwelcomed confusion.

I was wondering this aswell so you have posted a question that I wanted answered, must keep posting 'cos I want an avatar some of them on this forum are cool. At least for now we can do smilies ;D
