Since updating to 4.8 Home Edition I’m having problems with Spy Sweeper version 4.59.There are temporary freezes when I start it, I only run it manually. I tried disabling check for rootkits and self defense in Avast but it did not help. I even removed and reinstalled Spy Sweeper. The problem still exists.

Hmmm… how to solve this… I’m empty…
After more experimenting the problem seems more confined to the first few minutes after boot up or resuming from hibernation. Since I run it manually it’s not that big of a problem but would be if it was set to run on start.
Joe
Don’t you run the resident part of Spy Sweeper?
I just scan with it. It got to be pretty bloated and was a real pain installing or updating software with constant pop ups during the process. I run SpyBot search and destroy real time.

I began to notice short freezes where only the mouse pointer moved. These lasted 1-2 min. I uninstalled and reinstalled 4.7.

Can you check the folder \data\log
Are there any files called unpXXXX there (where XXXX is a random number)?
Specially with a time/date earlier than you’ve moved back to 4.7.
If so, send them to vlk (at) avast.com
They may contain more information about the problem (maybe a link to this thread).
As an update I just uninstalled version 4.7 and did a clean install of the 4.8.1178 now Spy Sweeper starts normally.

Glad to know. In fact, version 4.8 and even the latest beta solve a lot of problems with 4.7.
Since the last post I had time to check out Roxio 7 It seems to be OK too. I know others had problems with it. I spliced a couple video clips and then burned to a CDRW with no problems.

Thanks for the update, Joe … glad to know all is going well.
