We run a program call ACH Client (uses Visual Basic) to transmit data. We installed Avast and now the program will not open and run on the designated computer.
It will open and run on a different computer also using Avast. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Avast. When Avast is uninstalled the program runs.
Is there a way to get Avast to allow the program to run or to simply ignore it.
Which version of Avast are you using? Pro or Home?
The Pro version will block VB scripts and stop them running. Is this the problem? If so the help manual should explain how to create an exception for this program.
I assume the program will not run on the machine with Avast Pro. So, because you obviously trust this program, I would create an exception for this program.
But that also assumes that you can create exceptions for the script blocker. I have never used Avast Pro, so, out of curiosity on my part, and to help CafeNut, can someone please say whether it is possible or not?
First of all, I’d suggest trying to turn off the resident protection of avast! (using the blue tray icon). Does it help? (i.e. does the program run when the resident protection is off?)
If yes, try to switch off the resident providers only one by one, to find out which one causes the trouble.
What is your operating system, btw?
Additionally, what exactly does it mean “the program won’t open”? Just nothing happens… or any error message appears?
When we double click the program icon, nothing happens. No error message is generated. I am going to attempt your other suggestions when the computer in question is open.
btw…I uninstalled Avast and the program worked. I reinstalled Avast and the problem returned.

Is your operating system sp1 or sp2 ? Is the program which is giving you a problem a 16 bit program?
You might also want to try the new avast! Home/Pro 4.5 BETA.
