I ran the program twice - both times the tested files stopped at 9038 - however it states that its still running. Nothing seems wrong. I even went to task manager and its running fine.
Should I wait??? Its been at least 20 minutes.
If not - what do i need to do since i already tried it twice.
Which service? Are you downloading avast setup file?
How exactly does it freeze? Does it happen always approximatelly at the same place/folder of the scan?
Do you see a hard disk activity (when it freezes)? Is only the program frozen, or the whole computer (possibly with mouse cursor)?
Additionally, you can go to the program settings and turn on the creation of the report file (with “OK files” to be included as well in the report). This way, you can find out where the scan really stopped (it’s going to be close to the end of the report).
After avast! disappears, check the end of the report file - the “troublesome” file is likely to be close to the end (close in the sense that this particular file will probably not be written in the report, but the previous one will be the last line, so it shouldn’t be hard to guess). We would certainly like to have this file - if it really causes problems to avast! - so that we could fix the problem.
The report file created (if you turned it on in program settings) will be (default location) at \Data\Report\Simple User Interface.txt
yeah 9038 is the file number - it is documents and setting - user - desktop. everything else is working fine - it just seems to be frozen - or taking forever - but i believe something is wrong
If you do it again (I know it is a pain) and it stops on the same file number, left click the avast ‘a’ icon open the Standard Shield detailed view and it should indicate a last file scanned: field, now this may not be the actual file or the next one in order in the folder may be the culprit.
Is there anything significant about the last file scanned or the next in the folder, e.g. size, folder, file type, etc. ?
To get to the Program Settings, right click the ‘a’ icon, select Program Settings.
It might also be helpful for us to know if you have any other anti-virus program on this computer. Do you? Also, what other security programs do you have on this computer and what is the OS?
