Program to update drivers

Dear Forum,

Can anybody recommend a safe program which automatically scans and updates drivers on your computer?

I have tried it with Window$ Update but I am not satisfied that this is a comprehensive scan.

Thanks in advance!

updating drivers?.. I couldn’t find one. go to your motherboard manufacturer’s site, for eg. intel, and subscribe to driver updates feeds so that you are updated. I have done the same thing.

Be very careful, updating drivers can have a serious impact on your system.

There are many that say only drivers that are not performing correctly should be updated. Then there are those that have security updates, other than that it is wise to leave well alone.

NMB: Thank you for the tip! Much appreciated.

Pondus: Hej hej! Tack ska du ha! Och tack ska du också ha för de andra länkarna i förra tråden om HJT!!

I don’t trust any site claiming to be able to scan my drives to tell me anything about the drivers that I use. Two sources here:

1 Windows Update
2 manufacturers web sites

and nothing else…unless really looking for trouble. It’s the business of no site to take care of this.

Personally, I don’t even trust microsoft update for drivers, I’ve had many problems with updated drivers from them.

I only go with hardware manufacturer’s drivers. Choice is up to you though.

Snap to that opinion, many MS Hardware driver updates have stuffed up systems, typically they are graphics drivers and you are best going direct to the manufactures site.

I’ve been using DriverMax for some time and have been extremely satisfied.
They offer both a free and paid version.
The free version allows 2 free driver update downloads per day and the Pro or paid version ($39.95 for 2 years) allows unlimited
instant downloads of new drivers.
For me this has come in handy when updating a machine to Windows 7 and making sure there are compatible drivers available especially
in the case of some outdated drivers when changing over an XP system.

I don’t believe in any application scanning for my drivers. I only trust manufacturers website. so subscribe to their feeds.

That’s what’s great about DriverMax, they go to the manufacturers site to check and if available download new drivers.

oki bob will give it a try.

I have been using DriverMax for a while now.And another good thing about it is if you install a new driver and have problems you can easily roll back to the earlier driver.

Because shortly after I bought this computer a year and a half ago I had problems with a graphics driver and had to get a generic one from Microsoft. When DriverMax updated it to a Nvidia driver because I have Nvidia the problem returned. Not DriverMax fault as it should have a Nvidia driver. But I just used the roll back to a earlier version and it was fixed.

       I would highly recommend DriverMax.

Thanks for the link to DriverMax, Bob … it works like a charm.
And, you can download 2 drivers per day for free.

Pondus,

I checked the two you listed above and if I read them correctly, you have to pay to get downloads.

Nice lists, Pondus … thanks!

@ Pondus: Oi då! Listen är verkligen bra! Tack ska du ha!

Charley,
You are allowed 2 FREE driver downloads per day. If you need or want more, then get the Pro version and then you’ll
have unlimited driver downloads. I spent $39.95 for 2 years of unlimited driver download service.
I’m currently using this service on 4 computers.
