Program update..

Beta 1178

Today I went into program settings then update basic, the settings are as was the default which is Automatic for Virus database and Ask when update is available for program update.

I actually clicked on by mistake the update now for the program, and I am quite sure I saw something download sizewise, which confuses me as I was already up to date with the virus database and didnt think there to be any program updates.

Any ideas on what that download could have been?

I am sure the size of the download was something like 1078kb or something similar.

Last question is do program updates appear in the Avast log like the virus updates do?

Please, post the last 200-250 lines of avast log: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Setup.log

Yes, check the Setup folder into avast Log Viewer.

It downloaded an information file of 1087 bytes that it used to confirm you are up to date.

It was behaving perfectly correctly.

How do I post the details of that log? what do I open it with?

I see some lines that say Isfullokjrog-35.vpu - not okay (doesn’t exist)

What does this mean and does this sound normal?

Use C:\Windows\Notepad.exe to open it, go to the bottom, copy lines upward, paste here…

.

it wont post, too many characters.

Worth learning how to do it.

But in this case it will simply confirm what I told you above - the program update check is working precisely as it should.

Choose a smaller area… just the last 200 lines… or at least 150…

Not required.

I think you may be meaning the Notice logs in the avast Log Viwer … this shows Virus database and VRDB updates it does not show program updates (but it does show if you received a notice that a new update is available - with no info about the version).

There is nothing wrong shown in your log - everything you posted is normal log information.

Thanks, it’s just that when you see not ok and doesnt exist in the log that you begin to worry, but that’s all ok you say…

It’s in my logs too and other logs you can see posted here.

avast is working properly in the logs you posted.

I rarely look at the logs except after program updates or during a beta program - to check for unusual events - or, of course, if avast alerts me to a problem with an error pop-up.

I feel the same.

Thanks Guys
