Program Won't Accept Licence Ky

My Dad’s avast was way out of date … I got him a new license key but every time entered the new one and said ok … the old one would still be there. So I uninstalled the old program and installed the latest available. It still will not accept the new license key. I checked to make sure the date and time were correct on the computer. It’s an HP Pavilion Laptop with XP Home.

Please tell me the fix for this. Thanks!

Hello Xeolyte

lets try this :

  1. download the offline avast installer from here : http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html , please use the full installer. do not download the online installer and also from cnet (download from avast site itself). select the required language.

  2. download avast uninstall utility from here: http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear.exe

disconnect from the internet.

  1. Start Windows in Safe Mode.

  2. Run the uninstall utility (If you installed avast! in a different folder than the default, browse for it)

  3. Remove

  4. Restart your computer.

  5. install using the brand new installer you download in step 0.

  6. restart.

  7. insert key.

  8. update av.

I just did as you instructed and it still goes back to the out of date key.

What version of Avast is installed?
(Right click the tray icon >about Avast > and we want the version (top) the build, and the VPS version and date.)
Check the computer date and time is correct.

Please, post the last 300-350 lines of avast log: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Setup.log

Hi,
New to this board. Not computer savy so please bare with me. I removed the free home edition of Avast when I purchased the Avast 4 Professional. I installed the new program but like the previous person said it won’t let me put in the new key it keeps reverting back to the previous key? So will the program still run with the old key or what do I do? Thank You,

If you will use the professional version, just insert the key:

Thanks for all your help … my dad was just here for a visit and left this morning … he only uses the laptop when he goes on vacation so it’s not really a problem until next year.
