Promlem solved

After installing Avast on my computer, I can’t go on the internet at all! Is there something I can do to fix this? When I try to log on to the internet, it says no server detected; however, my internet is working fine. I can go to the main page on yahoo because I typed that address into the allow section (that’s how I know the internet is working).

I have windows xp sp2.

What is your firewall ?
Does it allow ashWebSv.exe internet access ?

If it does delete the entries for them and do a manual update and reconnect to the internet, this will force the firewall to ask permission again.

Is the Yahoo address an https: (secure address ?

Did avast detect any malware when you first installed it ?

I turned off my computer and unplugged the modem for 45 seconds. It worked.

That is strange, If you were connected and the internet was as you say working fine, I don’t see how what you did would resolve the Yahoo issue, ah computers. The main thing is that it is working again.
