Set up can’t continue because a more recent version of Internet Explorer is installed on your computer"

Could you check in your programmes and features to see what IE the system thinks you have

Hi. I can’t see it listed in programme and features

OTL thinks you have 9 Internet Explorer (Version = 9.10.9200.16540)

OK Go Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right click command prompt and select run as administrator
In the black box that opens type in the following and press enter :

sfc /scannow

Once done reboot and try IE again

The scan showed no integrity violations.

Now when I open explorer it won’t let go anywhere from the home page but if I go into settings and ‘in private browsing’ this opens in a new window. There’s two links 'Learn more about InPrivate Browsing’ and ‘Read the Internet Explorer privacy statement online’. If I click on the latter it goes to a blank page and I can’t move from there. If I click the former I can go to a window web page ‘Browse the Web’ which allows me to go to my homepage and surf the web as normal.

Could you reset IE9 to defaults please, details here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378

That seems to have sorted it. IE is working as it should be. In fact my laptop is behaving itself now. I just did a MWBYts and SASW scan and no threats or tracking cookies detected. Things also seem to be running faster as well. A big big thank you.

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Run AdwCleaner and select uninstall

[]Follow the prompts on the screen
[
]A message should appear confirming that ComboFix was uninstalled

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

Clear Restore Points

Go Start > All Programmes > Accessories > System tools
Right click Disc Cleanup and select run as administrator
When it pops up at the first prompt select OK after it has done some calculations the tabs will appear
Select More Options tab
Press Sytem Restore and Shadow Copies Cleanup button

Hi thanks. I’ve done all that now

thanks again.

I’ve been having issues with firefox again with pdf documents not downloading, firefox updates not completing error messages such as ‘scripts not completing’ on web pages. So I decided to uninstall and reinstall and now I can’t reinstall it. I’m told the install can’t be completed because a temporary folder couldn’t be installed. I tried a system restore and that couldn’t be completed because ‘an unspecified error occurred during system restore’. The error log advised closing antivirus software and trying again which I’ve done and still no joy.

Otherwise things are fine, I’ve been updating and using Malwarebytes, AVG and Superantispyware every day.

Did you fully uninstall Firefox https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/forum-response-clean-reinstall

Following those instructions I fall at the first hurdle because I can’t download the latest version of FF. I get an error message saying ‘cannot create temporary folder archive’, the windows box is labelled couldn’t be created. ‘7-Zip’

Hmm it looks like 7zip is trying to take control of the download
Could you right click the download link and select "save as "

This is the link on the Mozilla page? When I do that it save in my downloads folder and when I open the saved file another Mozilla webpage opens as attached.

Download it from my dropbox and see if the same thing occurs https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/73555776/Firefox%20Setup%2021.0.exe
Just uploading now so it may take a few minutes

no joy. I get the same error message ‘cannot create temporary folder archive’

Whilst I do a little research, have a read here http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/764869

I’ve tried to run as administrator as suggested in that link and right clicking on every other program in the download folder ‘run as administrator’ appears in the drop down but it doesn’t for the Mozilla download.

Do you have 7 zip installed ?
