Hi.I am a newcomer to avast. I have just downloaded the free version and I must say I am impressed so far. I have run a couple of scans which revealed two “Java:Djewers-P[Trj]” which a spyware specific program and a spyware and antivirus program I have did not pick up, were found during a boot scan and deleted.
And after running another boot scan a few days later, it found three “PUP:win32:PUP-gen[PUP]” one of which could be deleted. The other two however could not be deleted, moved to chest or repaired. The error messages are as follows. Move to chest “Error: The operation is not supported for this type of archive. (42111)” and delete has the same message. Repair gives the message "Error: The file was not repaired. (42060). The “Severity” rating is given as low.
Any hints or help in this matter would be very much appreciated. Thankyou in advance.
Move to chest "Error: The operation is not supported for this type of archive. (42111)" and delete has the same message.
It looks that that the detected file is inside some archive (i.e. zip, rar, or some selfExtract archive) so it can't be unpacked, removed and than packed. You can delete whole archive.
Repair gives the message "Error: The file was not repaired. (42060). The "Severity" rating is given as low.
The whole file is malware, it is not infected by some virus, so only whole file can be moved/deleted/...
Hi Asyn, I appreciate your input and I am aware what PUP means. Since deleting five other PUP’s and two Trojans with Avast, I am trying to aim for a clean system by removing these two as well. My boot time and system performance has increased markedly by their removal so hopefully it will improve further if and when these are removed.
Hi Milos. I am what you may consider computer illiterate hence my plea for help. I kind of understand what you are saying but have no idea of where to go in the system to find these files. I am running XP Home Service Pack 2 2002 with Service Pack 3 loaded as an update. Any further help would be very much appreciated.
